Step Up Transformer Manufacturers in India
Purevolt India manufactures step up transformers from 1 KVA to 1000 KVA in single phase and three phase designs. ISO 9001 certified, NABL tested, exporting since 1995 to over 30 countries including the USA, Nigeria, UAE, and Australia.
When Does Your Plant or Site Need a Step Up Transformer?
Your machine from the US needs 480V. Your supply gives 240V. That is the most common situation we deal with. Here is why step up transformers are essential for specific operations.
Imported Machinery Needs Higher Voltage
A machine from America needs 480V three phase. A Japanese CNC centre needs 200V. A German press needs 380V. Your Indian supply is 415V or 240V. A step up transformer converts accurately and keeps the machine at its rated voltage.
Power Generation and Transmission
At the generation stage, step up transformers increase voltage for long distance transmission. Higher voltage means lower current, which means less heat loss across long cable runs. Generation plants use step up transformers before connecting to the high voltage grid.
Renewable Energy Grid Connection
Solar arrays and wind turbines generate at relatively low voltage. Step up transformers bring this up to grid interconnection voltage before the power is fed into the network. A required component in any grid-connected solar or wind installation.
UPS and Power Conditioning
Step up transformers are installed at the output of online UPS systems to match UPS output voltage to the voltage the connected equipment actually requires. A common requirement in data centres and telecom installations.
How a Step Up Transformer Works
Simple physics. The secondary coil has more turns of wire than the primary. More turns means a higher induced voltage at the output. While the voltage goes up, the current comes down proportionally, keeping power roughly the same minus efficiency losses.
Lower Voltage Enters the Primary
The lower voltage AC supply connects to the primary winding. The primary turn count determines the input voltage rating of the transformer.
Magnetic Field Is Created in the Core
Current in the primary creates a changing magnetic field in the CRGO silicon steel core. This field links both windings and transfers energy from primary to secondary.
Higher Voltage Induced in Secondary
The secondary winding has more turns than the primary. More turns means a proportionally higher induced voltage. A 1:2 turns ratio doubles the voltage at the output.
Higher Voltage Delivered to Machine
The secondary delivers the stepped-up voltage to your machine. As voltage increases, current decreases proportionally, keeping power roughly constant across both sides.

- Longer service life in tough conditions
Winding Configurations Explained Simply
Three phase step up transformers are available in three main winding configurations. The right one depends on your specific application and supply arrangement.
Delta / Star (Δ/Y)
Primary in delta, secondary in star. Star secondary gives a neutral point for grounding. Standard for power plant step up applications where you are feeding into a high voltage grid. The most common configuration for generation-side step up.
Star / Star (Y/Y)
Both sides in star. Used when you need a grounded neutral reference on both input and output. Good for sensitive loads and applications where both sides of the transformer need a stable neutral point.
Star / Delta (Y/Δ)
Primary in star, secondary in delta. Less common for step up but used in specific industrial configurations. Our engineers will confirm if this configuration suits your particular application before the order is placed.
Where Are Step Up Transformers Used?
Anywhere the local supply voltage is lower than what the connected equipment or machine requires. These are the most common sectors we supply.
