Oil Cooled Servo Voltage Stabilizer

Air cooling works up to a point. Beyond 200 KVA, in ambient temperatures above 45 degrees, or when the unit runs 24 hours a day, air cooling is not enough. An oil cooled servo voltage stabilizer handles all of that. The entire internal assembly sits in mineral transformer oil, which absorbs and dissipates heat far more effectively than moving air. The result is stable, regulated voltage output even at full load in the hottest industrial environments.

Purevolt manufactures oil cooled servo stabilizers from 15 KVA to 2500 KVA in three phase and 10 KVA to 500 KVA in single phase. Available in balanced and unbalanced configurations with indoor and outdoor weatherproof enclosures. All units are manufactured to order at our Okhla, Delhi facility.

Why Heavy Industrial Loads Require Oil Cooling

Air cooled stabilizers have their place. But certain applications make oil cooling necessary, not optional. Here is what drives that decision.

High KVA Generates More Heat Than Air Can Remove

A 500 KVA or 1000 KVA stabilizer generates far more internal heat than exhaust fans can remove. Running an air cooled unit at these ratings causes components to overheat, transformer life to shorten, and eventually the unit to fail. Oil immersion is the engineering solution for large KVA loads.

Hot Climates Defeat Air Cooling

Air cooling relies on the ambient air being cooler than the components inside. In Nigeria, Kenya, the UAE, and across the Indian summer, ambient temperatures regularly exceed 40 to 45 degrees. When that happens, air cooling loses effectiveness. Oil cooling works regardless of ambient temperature because oil has a far higher thermal mass than air.

Continuous Duty Needs Sustained Cooling

Factories, hospitals, cold storage plants, and telecom installations run around the clock. An oil cooled stabilizer handles continuous 24/7 operation without the cooling system ever being overwhelmed. Purevolt oil cooled designs are built specifically for this kind of sustained industrial duty.

Oil Cooled Units Last Longer

Components running at lower temperatures consistently outlast components running hot. An oil cooled stabilizer handling the same load as an air cooled unit at its thermal limit will deliver a longer service life. This is why oil cooled designs are the standard choice for large industrial and export applications.

How an Oil Cooled Servo Stabilizer Works

The servo motor and dimmerstat work exactly as in air cooled units. The difference is entirely in how heat is managed after it is generated.

Digital Control Circuit Monitors Input

The solid-state control board samples all three incoming phase voltages and compares each to the reference. Any deviation triggers a correction signal. This monitoring is continuous and operates without interruption at all load levels.

Servo Motor Adjusts the Dimmerstat

The error signal drives the AC synchronous servo motor, which moves the dimmerstat arm to compensate for the voltage deviation. The correction is stepless and proportional, not the discrete switching of relay stabilizers.

Oil Absorbs and Dissipates Heat

All heat-generating components are immersed in mineral transformer oil inside the sealed tank. Heat moves from the components into the oil, then from the oil to the tank walls, which radiate it to the surrounding air. No fans. No filters. Silent operation throughout.

Stable Output Delivered to Your Load

Corrected voltage passes through the buck-boost transformer stage and reaches your equipment as regulated voltage within plus or minus 1 percent. The oil tank maintains safe operating temperatures throughout continuous industrial operation.

When to Choose Oil Cooled Over Air Cooled

Both types correct voltage to the same plus or minus 1 percent accuracy. The decision depends on KVA, environment, and how the unit will be used.

Choose Air Cooled When
  • Load is below 200 KVA
  • Ambient temperature stays below 45 degrees
  • Indoor, well-ventilated installation
  • Light to medium duty operation
  • Budget is the primary constraint
  • Single phase loads up to 90 KVA
Choose Oil Cooled When
  • Load is 200 KVA and above
  • Ambient temperature exceeds 45 degrees
  • Outdoor or harsh environment installation
  • Continuous 24/7 industrial operation
  • Exporting to Africa or the Middle East
  • Long service life in tough conditions is the priority

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an oil cooled servo voltage stabilizer?
An oil cooled servo voltage stabilizer is a servo type automatic voltage controller where the internal assembly, including the servo motor, dimmerstat, and control components, is immersed in mineral transformer oil. The oil absorbs and dissipates heat far more effectively than air, making oil cooled stabilizers the right choice for high KVA ratings, continuous industrial duty, and high ambient temperature environments.
What is the capacity range of Purevolt oil cooled servo stabilizers?
Purevolt manufactures oil cooled servo voltage stabilizers from 15 KVA to 2500 KVA in three phase configurations. Single phase oil cooled versions are available from 10 KVA to 500 KVA. All units are manufactured to your specific input voltage range, KVA requirement, and enclosure type.
Why is oil cooling better than air cooling for large KVA stabilizers?
At higher KVA ratings, the heat generated inside the stabilizer increases substantially. Air cooling becomes insufficient to remove this heat fast enough, which causes components to run hot and shortens their life. Oil has a much higher thermal mass and conductivity than air, so oil cooled units maintain safe operating temperatures even under sustained full load in high ambient temperature environments.
Can oil cooled stabilizers be installed outdoors?
Yes. Purevolt oil cooled servo stabilizers are available in weatherproof outdoor enclosures. These units are widely used in African and Middle Eastern countries where outdoor installation in high ambient temperatures is standard practice. The sealed oil tank keeps internal components protected from dust, moisture, and insects.
What output voltage stability does the oil cooled stabilizer provide?
Purevolt oil cooled servo stabilizers maintain output voltage stability within plus or minus 1 percent for both single phase and three phase models. Efficiency is 95 percent or higher. Both balanced type and unbalanced type constructions are available to match your load distribution requirements.
Do you export oil cooled servo stabilizers internationally?
Yes. Oil cooled stabilizers are our most exported product category. We regularly ship to Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Zimbabwe, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and over 30 other countries. SONCAP certification is available for West African markets. All export certifications from Bureau Veritas, SGS, and Intertek are supplied with the shipment.
