Before introducing our range of Automatic Voltage Regulators, it is important to understand some basic facts about power distribution systems. In most countries, electricity is generated and transmitted through a three-wire balanced supply system. The connected load typically includes both single-phase and three-phase equipment, all operating on this balanced system.
To support such loads, a DeltaโStar configuration transformer is used at the final stage of the distribution network. This converts the three-wire system into a three-phase, four-wire system. A critical factor in this setup is that the neutral point on the star side must be properly grounded to prevent neutral floating or oscillation. A stable and well-grounded neutral is essential for maintaining reliable electrical conditions.
If the neutral is not properly managed, it can lead to unbalanced single-phase voltages, a common issue in many distribution networks. Even in such cases, the line-to-line voltages generally remain balanced, which is why three-phase loads experience fewer issues compared to single-phase loads.

Unbalanced Type AVR
The unbalanced type Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) is a widely accepted design suitable for a variety of operating conditions. In this type, each phase is independently sensed and corrected. It is essentially a combination of three single-phase units integrated into one system.
This type is suitable for both balanced and unbalanced loads, as well as balanced and unbalanced incoming voltages. When the load consists of a mix of three-phase and single-phase equipment, or is entirely single-phase in nature, the unbalanced type AVR is strongly recommended. Due to its flexibility and reliability, unbalanced type AVRs are widely used across most industries and applications.
Balanced Type AVR
In a balanced type Automatic Voltage Regulator, one phase (master phase) is sensed, and the remaining two phases are corrected based on the master phase.
This type is suitable only for balanced loads and balanced incoming voltages. When all connected loads are purely three-phase, a balanced type AVR can be used effectively.
