High Frequency Online UPS

India’s power grid and the grids in Africa have real problems. Voltage dips, spikes, harmonic disturbances from industrial loads on the same feeder, and generator switching transients are daily occurrences. Standard UPS systems handle power cuts. A high frequency online UPS handles all of that and more. It regenerates the output power completely, filters every grid disturbance, and adds an inbuilt isolation transformer that most imported UPS units leave out.

Purevolt manufactures three phase sine wave high frequency online UPS systems for industrial and commercial applications. IGBT-based high-frequency PWM inverter technology with active power factor correction. Inbuilt isolation transformer as standard. Available from 1 KVA to 100 KVA in multiple phase configurations at our Okhla, Delhi facility.

Why Choose High Frequency Technology Over Standard UPS?

Two UPS systems can both claim double conversion. But the technology inside makes a real difference in size, efficiency, input quality, and how well they handle demanding loads.

Standard (Low Frequency) UPS
  • Uses a large line-frequency transformer (50 Hz)
  • Heavier and bulkier for the same KVA rating
  • Higher input current harmonics
  • Slower response to sudden load changes
  • Less efficient at partial load conditions
  • Suitable for basic office and commercial applications
High Frequency UPS (Purevolt)
  • IGBT-based PWM inverter operating at high frequency
  • Compact and space-efficient for equivalent KVA rating
  • Active PFC. Low input current harmonics.
  • Fast response to sudden load changes and crest factor loads
  • Higher efficiency, especially at partial load
  • Inbuilt isolation transformer. No external unit required.

Inbuilt Isolation Transformer: Why This Matters

Most high-frequency UPS units in the market, particularly imported ones, do not include an isolation transformer. They supply output power that is electrically connected to the input supply, which means common mode noise, ground faults, and transients on the input side can still reach the output.

Purevolt high frequency online UPS systems include a built-in heavy-duty isolation transformer as standard. This gives complete electrical isolation between input and output. Surges and spikes on the mains side cannot physically cross into the output circuit. Common mode noise is suppressed. Ground loops are broken. The connected equipment receives genuinely clean, isolated power.

Installing a Purevolt high frequency UPS eliminates the need for a separate isolation transformer, which reduces installation cost, saves panel space, and removes one more component that needs maintenance.

How the High Frequency Online UPS Works

True double conversion with active power factor correction and high-frequency PWM inverter technology throughout the power conversion chain.

Active PFC Rectifier Draws Clean Input Current

The input rectifier uses active power factor correction, which draws near-sinusoidal current from the mains. This minimises input current harmonics, reduces stress on the mains wiring and distribution transformer, and makes the UPS compatible with diesel generators and poor quality grid supplies.

DC Bus Powers the IGBT Inverter

The DC bus simultaneously charges the battery bank and feeds the IGBT-based high-frequency PWM inverter. The inverter operates at a high switching frequency, which allows it to respond to load changes much faster than a line-frequency design and handle high crest factor loads such as servers and medical equipment without output voltage distortion.

Isolation Transformer Delivers Fully Isolated Output

The inverter output passes through the built-in isolation transformer before reaching your load. Complete electrical isolation is established. Mains-side disturbances, common mode noise, and ground faults cannot cross the isolation barrier. The output is clean, regulated, and fully isolated from the input supply.

Zero Transfer Time During Mains Failure

When mains fails, the IGBT inverter continues drawing from the battery bank and generating the same output. The load sees no interruption because it was never on the mains. The static bypass switch is available for maintenance and overload conditions without interrupting the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a high frequency online UPS?
A high frequency online UPS uses IGBT-based high-frequency PWM inverter technology with active power factor correction instead of a line-frequency transformer-based design. The result is a more compact, more efficient UPS with better handling of non-linear loads (servers, CNC machines, medical equipment) and lower input current harmonics. Purevolt high frequency UPS also includes an inbuilt isolation transformer, which most imported high-frequency models leave out.
Why does Purevolt include an inbuilt isolation transformer when many others don’t?
Without an isolation transformer, the UPS output is electrically connected to the input supply. This means common mode noise, ground faults, and transients on the mains side can still pass through to the output and reach your equipment. Purevolt includes a built-in heavy-duty isolation transformer that gives complete electrical isolation. This is particularly important in India and Africa where grid noise and ground quality are often poor.
What configurations does the Purevolt high frequency UPS come in?
Purevolt high frequency online UPS is available in three configurations: single phase in, single phase out from 1 KVA to 10 KVA; three phase in, single phase out from 3 KVA to 100 KVA; and three phase in, three phase out from 3 KVA to 100 KVA. System configurations include standalone, dual redundant hot standby, and parallel redundant load sharing.
Is the high frequency UPS suitable for CNC machines and servers?
Yes. The IGBT-based high-frequency inverter with a crest factor greater than 4:1 is designed specifically for non-linear loads like servers, CNC machine controllers, and medical equipment. These loads draw current in pulses rather than a smooth sine wave, which can cause output distortion in standard UPS systems. The Purevolt high frequency design handles this without any output voltage distortion.
What is the output voltage distortion of Purevolt high frequency UPS?
Purevolt high frequency online UPS delivers computer-grade pure sine wave output with total harmonic distortion less than 3 percent at full load. Output frequency is crystal-controlled at 50 Hz plus or minus 0.01 percent. This output quality meets the requirements of the most demanding equipment, including medical instruments and precision laboratory systems.
How long can the high frequency UPS run on battery?
Backup time depends on the battery bank size and load. Standard configurations give 30 to 60 minutes at full load. Extended battery banks support up to 8 hours for applications like telecom sites, remote industrial installations, and medical facilities where long autonomy is required. Backup time requirement should be specified when ordering.
